C's på Holmen: Website prototype

Table of contents

Project description

Copenhagen Business Academy is hosting an event for all new students: C's på Holmen (Pronounced "Ses på Holmen"). The event is a one-day-festival during the month of September with activities all over Holmen and Reffen in Copenhagen. Organised by the tutors, the festival offers an introduction to fellow students to get to know each other outside the classroom. The event ends with a concert at Reffen.

My team and I were assigned to create a prototype for a website advertising the festival to the students. The website provides information about the event before and during the day and the possibility to buy a ticket for the festival.

The solution

The website consists of a homepage, and three sub-pages. All can be viewed and accessed in the navigationbar at the bottom of the screen.

The homepage acts as an overview over the festival, providing information about the event and any questions the students might have about the festival.

To get an overview of the festival, there is a map of Holmen and Reffen and all its activities throughout the day. Each activity can be clicked on and further information will appear on the screen.

When participating at the activities, the students have to show their digital tickets to the tutors. The first time accessing the ticket, you have to login--afterwards the site will keep you logged in. Now the ticket will appear as a QR-code, ready to be scanned by the tutors.

In case of an emergency or if you have any questions during the festival, the contact-page proves the names and numbers of each tutor at the festival. Simply choose your campus and find the available tutors.

The process

My team and I wanted to make an user-friendly website with easy access to each page and an uncomplicated flow between them. As this is a website that will mostly be used on the festival-day itself, we wanted as few things as possible as to not give any hiccups when using the website. That is why the design is minimalistic in nature, having only the necessary items on each page. The prototype is made for phones, as this is the main device students are using on the day of the festival. The website and its components can easily be upscaled for desktop-version if necessary.

The target group is Cphbusiness' new students, typically young people in the ages 20-30 years old. The desired target is to get as many students as possible to participate in the festival buy i.e. buy a ticket. Our succes criteria is to get 50% of the new students to participate.

Based on the target group, my team and I defined five keywords:

These keywords define the design of the website. We experimented with a number of designs before landing on the right aesthetic with a warm color-palette consisting of red-pink, orange and yellow. These are analogous to each other and give associations to summer, warmth and fun-just like festivals typically would. As a contrast-color, we chose blue as it is a complimentary-color to orange and balance off the warm nuances in our design. Finally we use an off-white and black for background-color and highlights.

The structure of the homepage is based on the AIDA-model. Firstly, we wanted to grab the user's attention with a fun banner. Then we wanted to peak their interest with a brief overview of the festival before giving them a call-to-action by being able to buy a ticket.
