Blackpink's In the Pink: Visual concept for digital and printed media
Table of contents
Project description
ATTENTION: The following project is a work of fiction and is not made for commercial purposes. This project and its materials are not affiliated with BLACKPINK.
With over 13 billion streams on Spotify, the KPOP-group BLACKPINK is one of the biggest girlgroups of our time. After a few years with focus on other projects, the group is back stronger than ever, with their new album "In the Pink".
My team and I were tasked with creating the visual material for the release. This includes the visuals for the digital- and physical release as well as additional promotion for the album.

The solution
The main item in the visual release is the album cover. With respect to their previous albums, my team and I wanted to incorporate a minimalistic design using BLACKPINK’s primary colors: black and pink. The eye catcher is a giant pink diamond, symbolising wealth, power and strength, which is the tone-of-voice on this album.
In the KPOP-music genre, there is an entire industry dedicated to physical albums. It's not uncommon for KPOP-groups to release the same album in multiple different versions as a way for fans to buy them like collectibles. The "In the Pink"-album is being released in two versions: standard- and limited edition which includes exclusive collector's items. Visually they also differ as the limited edition-version has a different color scheme. The album is being released physically as vinyls and CD's as well as digitally on various streaming platforms.

In order to promote the album, my team and I have made different OOH-posters, both for digital screens and physical format as posters and billboards.
Furthermore, the internet is a prominent marketing platform, and one which BLACKPINK uses frequently. We have made content for the girlgroup to post on their social media platforms, such as Instagram.
No matter the platform, the social media-post links to a landingpage advertising the release and redirecting the user in ways to which they can buy the album.

The process
The making of the visual material for "In the Pink" has been split up into three parts:
- Idea generation: research, moodboards, brainstorm
- Concept development: sketches, wireframes
- Execution: creating, editing, mockups
Idea generation
Firstly, my team and I researched BLACKPINK and their pre-existing materials, collecting it all into a moodboard. This is also where we discussed the album name, -cover and promotional material.

Concept development
Secondly, my team and I took our research and used it to develop the concept for the visual universe of this release. All of our visuals--album cover, promotion, mockups, etc.--were based on sketches and wireframes made at this point in time.

Execution
The visual universe for our concept was based on BLACKPINK's pre-existing universe. We wanted to create an album cover and a campaign in alignment with their previous work.
Our research laid grounds for our design, and we made a styleguide from which all visuals--digital or physical--is following.
The album cover itself is the centerpiece in this campaign, the one from which much of the material is based upon. The diamond from the cover was made using Adobe Firefly and later edited in Illustrator.

My team and I were stringent in terms of our project management. Our tasks were organized, prioritized and distributed in Trello with all team-members.
